About Us
MayneHelps is an initiative of the Mayne Island Collective, originally launched by the Mayne Island Assisted Living Society (MIALS) in November 2023. In November 2024, the program transitioned to operate under the SGI Neighbourhood House, whose goals align closely with ours. This transition allows MIALS to focus more fully on supporting the island’s older residents while we continue working to build a resilient and inclusive community for all.
Mission and Vision
Our mission is to foster a resilient, inclusive, and age-friendly community by empowering residents to share ideas, engage in conversations, and develop projects that shape the future of Mayne Island.
The M.I. Collective is composed of a number of the Mayne Island nonprofits who have committed to work together in synergy. These are listed below.
The Collective’s role is to make things happen. We bring the community together, manage projects from start to finish, write grants to secure funding, and provide the tools and support needed to turn ideas into action. Whether it’s facilitating discussions, connecting partners, tracking or nudging progress, we’re here to ensure projects succeed and benefit the entire island.
We believe that everyone has a role to play in building a stronger future. Whether you’re submitting an idea, joining a project, or volunteering your time, this is your space to contribute. Together, let’s build a vibrant, age-friendly, and sustainable Mayne Island—one idea at a time.

Through this platform, the Mayne Island Collective connects residents, nonprofits, and partners to co-create solutions for key priorities like affordable housing, food security, environmental preservation, and sustainable development. With over a dozen projects underway, MayneHelps provides the space and structure for conversations to turn ideas into actionable plans, foster collaboration, and track progress.
